Why Isolation Matters
Shock mounts are essential for preventing unwanted vibrations from traveling through a microphone stand into the microphone and onto your recordings or into your broadcasts. These vibrations can come from simple actions like tapping a foot, bumping the stand, tapping on a desk, or even from structural vibrations traveling through the floor.
While shock mounts effectively isolate the microphone, a common oversight occurs during setup: engineers often wrap or clip the microphone cable to the stand for neatness. This practice unintentionally bypasses the shock mount, allowing vibrations to travel through the cable directly to the microphone.
The Discovery and Solution
This issue was discovered during testing of the The Tri-Solate™ Universal Shock Mount, a premium product designed to block nearly all unwanted vibrations. Despite its effectiveness, residual vibrations were traced to the microphone cable contacting the stand.
To solve this, we developed the Tri-Solate™ Universal Cable Isolator. This innovative accessory isolates the cable itself, ensuring complete vibration control when used alongside any shock mount.
